66-19080

 

 

             66-19080, Boeing build number B-338, was a CH-47A helicopter. The U.S. Army acceptance date was 3 April 1967. The administrative strike date was 25 April 1968. 66-19080 accumulated at least 47.0 aircraft hours.

   At some point, 66-19080 was assigned to C Company - "Crimson Tide", 228th Assault Support Helicopter Battalion (ASHB) in the Republic of Vietnam (RVN) and remained there until lost due to enemy fire.

   On 25 April 1968,, while hovering over a UH-1 for sling load recovery, 66-09080 crashed and burned.

   A total of five personnel were killed, names unknown.

   The last known location of 66-19080 was in the Republic of Vietnam.

   Aircraft status: Shot down in combat.

 

 

             Melanie M. Sussner writes: There were five people killed when this chinook crashed. One of them was my uncle Bolen Poindexter McGee. Three killed were from C Company. Two were from the 1st Logistics Command and were non-crew members.
