THE APPLICATION OF SOLVENT SHOULD BE PERFORMED IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. (2) PROCEDURES: (A) APPLY A GENEROUS AMOUNT OF SOLVENT TO THE ADHESIVE THAT HAS BONDED THE CABLE TO THE VISOR. (B) ALLOW THE SOLVENT SUFFICIENT TIME TO SOFTEN THE ADHESIVE. (APPROXIMATELY 1 MINUTE) (C) TO PREVENT BODILY INJURY, AND DAMAGE TO THE CABLE OR VISOR, CAREFULLY USE THE ELECTRICIAN'S KNIFE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE . UNCLAS 09 15 011500Z MAR 93 PP PP UUUU ZEXW 0601300Z YES CABLE TO HELP FREE IT FROM THE VISOR GROOVE. (D) REMOVE THE CABLE FROM THE VISOR. IF SIGNIFICANT RESISTANCE IS ENCOUNTERED, REPEAT STEPS A THRU C ABOVE. (E) AFTER THE CABLE HAS BEEN FREED FROM THE VISOR, REMOVE THE FOUR SCREWS FROM THE BACK OF THE VISOR, AND REMOVE THE MOUNT ASSEMBLY. (F) CAREFULLY PUSH THE RUBBER GROMMET OUTWARD FROM THE INSIDE OF THE VISOR AND THEN PULL THE CABLE THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE VISOR. (G) VISUALLY INSPECT THE CABLE FOR OBVIOUS DAMAGE TO THE PLASTIC COATING. IF THE COATING IS SERVICEABLE, PROCEED TO STEP H BELOW. IF THE COATING HAS BEEN DAMAGED, PROCEED TO PARA 9B. (H) PERFORM THE VISOR CONTINUITY CHECK PER PARA 2-16 OF TM 11-5855-263-23 AND P, DTD 15 JAN 92. (1) IF THE ASSEMBLY FAILS THE CONTINUITY CHECK, DISCARD THE CABLE AND MOUNT. (2) IF THE ASSEMBLY PASSES THE CONTINUITY CHECK, PROCEED TO PARA 9C. B. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPAIR TO THE PLASTIC COATING - . UNCLAS 10 15 011500Z MAR 93 PP PP UUUU ZEXW 0601300Z YES THESE PROCEDURES MUST BE PERFORMED BY AVIM. (1) MATERIAL AND TOOL REQUIREMENT: 3 INCH PIECE OF 1/4 INCH BLACK HEAT SHRINK, NSN 5970-00-815-1295. (2) PROCEDURE: NOTE THE FOLLOWING STEPS MUST BE READ AND UNDERSTOOD BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO COMPLETE THIS MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE. (A) UNSCREW THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR LOCATED AT THE END OF THE CABLE. CAREFULLY SLIDE THE TOP OF THE CONNECTOR OFF THE BLACK PLUG. IDENTIFY THE TWO INSERT KEYS AND THEIR POSITIONS (EACH KEY IS DIFFERENT). HOLD THEM IN PLACE WHILE PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING STEPS. IF THE INSERT KEY(S) FALL OFF DURING DISASSEMBLY OR REASSEMBLY OF THE CONNECTOR, REINSTALL THEM IMMEDIATELY IAW THE CAUTION BELOW. CAUTION FAILURE TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE CORRECTLY MAY LEAD TO A SYSTEM FAILURE. TO REINSTALL THE INSERT KEYS, PLACE THE KEY WITH THE SINGLE TAB INTO THE SLOT LOCATED ON THE METAL BASE OF THE CONNECTOR. ALIGN THE OTHER END OF THE KEY (END WITH TWO TABS) ON . UNCLAS 11 15 011500Z MAR 93 PP PP UUUU ZEXW 0601300Z YES THE SPLINE LOCATED ON THE BLACK PLUG. THE SPLINE MUST BE ALIGNED BETWEEN THE TWO TABS. PUT THE KEY WITH THE BEVELED END INTO PLACE. THE BEVELED END MUST BE PLACED ON THE BLACK PLUG. (B) WITHOUT TWISTING THE BLACK PLUG, SLIDE THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE CONNECTOR DOWN THE CABLE AS FAR AS IT WILL GO. (C) CAREFULLY SLIDE THE HEAT SHRINK OVER THE BLACK PLUG AND CABLE. ENSURE THE NEW HEAT SHRINK OVERLAPS THE EXISTING HEAT SHRINK AND BUTTS UP AGAINST THE METAL BASE OF THE CONNECTOR END OF THE CABLE. (D) SHRINK THE TUBING ONTO THE CABLE. DURING THE SHRINKING PROCESS, ENSURE THE NEW HEAT SHRINK COVERS ALL EXPOSED CABLE AND OVERLAPS THE EXISTING HEAT SHRINK. (E) SLIDE THE TOP PORTION OF THE CONNECTOR OVER THE BLACK PLUG AND INSERT KEYS. TURN THE CONNECTOR UNTIL IT CLICKS INTO PLACE. THE CLICK MEANS THAT THE CONNECTOR IS PROPERLY ALIGNED WITH THE INSERT KEYS. (F) SLIDE THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE CONNECTOR UP THE CABLE AND SCREW IT INTO THE TOP CONNECTOR. HAND TIGHTEN ONLY. NOTE . UNCLAS 12 15 011500Z MAR 93 PP PP UUUU ZEXW 0601300Z YES IF THE CONNECTOR HAS BEEN ASSEMBLED PROPERLY, THERE WILL BE NO EXPOSED THREADS BETWEEN THE TOP AND BOTTOM PARTS OF THE CONNECTOR.
