Still a work in progress, the above photographs show the F Model Chinook Flight Simulator nearing completion - 24 February 2003.

Once the final design was layed out, this is what the CH-47F Chinook helicopter simulator looked like for the fielding and train-up of U.S. Army aircrews during the CH-47F New Equipment Training (NET). Box 17, shown above, was delivered to Camp Humphreys in November 2013. Every pilot who went through the CH-47F Aircraft Qualification Course (AQC) received a minimum of 26 hours in the simulator prior to flying the actual aircraft.

The instructor console of the CH-47F simulator. From this station, the Instructor Pilot could input many different scenerios allowing the student pilot to learn to operate the aircraft without ever leaving the ground. The simulator was approximately 95 percent as real as flying the actual aircraft.

The mirror used to display the video in front of the pilots. High quality digital projectors beamed the computer generated flight environment to the mirrors. The graphics displayed to the aircrews was as real looking as the technology available could present. It was almost a good as flying the real deal.

Jean R. Morgan became quite proficient at flying the simulator while the NET Team was fielding the Hawaii active Army and National Guard units stationed at Wheeler Army Airfield, Schofield Barracks, on the Island of Oahu.
