          The Ship

 

 

         
18 November 2010: The USNS Mendonca, a 950 foot long roll-on, roll-off cargo vessel, sits at the dock at US Naval Base Pearl Harbor. Aboard is the newest version of Boeing's famous CH-47 "Chinook" helicopter - the F model. The day's operation began with the unloading of the Cargo Containers (CONEX) from the forward hole. By the end of the day, all 14 helicopters, two flight simulators and several CONEXs were unloaded.

             It carried the newest edition of the Boeing Chinook helicopter, the CH-47 F model, bound for assignment with B Company - "Hillclimbers", 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, located at Wheeler Army Airfield, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

             A combined team from the US Navy, employees of Boeing, and aircrews from the S3 Incoporated CH-47F New Equipment Training Team (NETT) work diligently together to accomplished the unloading and operation of helicopters over a three day period without incident.

              The following series of photographs detail the unloading of the cargo vessel on 18 November and the ensuing deployment of the aircraft on 19 and 20 November from the port to the airfield.
