9 September 2011: CH-47F Chinook helicopter 07-08742 rests on the ramp outside the Pacific Aviation Museum on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor after the CH-47F Chinook helicopter Fielding Ceremony to commemorate the arriving of the aircraft to the active and national guard units at Wheeler Army Airfield. Visible in this photograph is the Infra-Red Suppression System (IRSS) used on the GA-714A engines. These greatly reduce the heat signature produced by the powerful Honeywell engines. The following CH-47F Chinook helicopters were fielded to B Company - "Hillclimbers", 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), 25th Infantry Division, located on Wheeler Army Airfield (PHHI), Island of Oahu, in the State of Hawaii, beginning in November 2010 and used to support the unit train-up. Airframes are routinely reassigned as necessary so there is no telling where there are now. |
