07-08731, Boeing Vertol Tab Number M8731, was a CH-47F helicopter. The U.S. Army acceptance date was 29 December 2009. As of 8 August 2011, 07-08731 accumulated an unknown number of aircraft hours. 07-08731 was a new build airframe produced on contract W58RGZ-04-C-0012 with all new components installed. 07-08731 was initially assigned to B Company - "Colossal", 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB), 10th Mountain Division, located at Fort Drum, New York. At some point, in late 2010, 07-08731 was deployed with "Colossal" in support of contingency operations in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). On 8 August 2011, 07-08731 was lost in an accident, details unknown, in the Gardez District Center. Some reports indicate pilot error. There were no fatalities and the aircraft was severely damaged. During the recovery process, a CH-53E helicopter was transporting 07-08731 via sling load. For an unknown reason, the crew of the CH-53E released the aircraft and it plunged to ground, destroying the airframe. The air drop was digitally recorded (see below). As of 8 August 2011, the last known location of 07-08731 was in Afghanistan. Aircraft status: Crashed. |

CH-47F Chinook helicopter 07-08731 is air dropped from a CH-53E somewhere in Afghanistan. We do not know the details - what date it happened or what caused the event to occur. If you know, please send in the information. Also, we would appreciate having an copy of the original video without the watermark to add to the history of the Chinook helicopter. Thanks. |

The following CH-47F Chinook helicopters were fielded to B Company - "Colossal", 3rd Battalion, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York, in early 2010. They also deployed with the unit to Afghanistan in the Fall of 2010. Airframes are always being shifted around, so there is no telling where they are now. |
