             A British Army hand out photograph released on Wednesday, 13 March 2003, shows a Chinook Helicopter carrying an under-slung Land Rover as it flies over the location of 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment in the Kuwait desert on 2 March 2003. Around 40,000 British troops are now in the Gulf region, either based on land or on ships such as HMS (Her Majesty's Ship) Ark Royal as part of Operation Telic.

             On this day, the United States and its allies abandoned diplomacy and prepared to deliver a final ultimatum to President Saddam Hussein to go into exile or face a massive military onslaught.

             A recently taken undated British Ministry of Defence (MOD) pool photograph received on Wednesday, 19 March 2003, shows British Radio Signals Operator Corporal Derek Salmon watching a Chinook helicopter in flight at an unknown location in the Gulf. British military commanders fear in the event of a war with Iraq, Saddam Hussein could launch chemical attacks on his own people and then blame the killings on coalition forces as part of an elaborate black propaganda campaign, defence sources said. U.S. and British troops moved into forward positions on Wednesday, ready to unleash a massive assault on Iraq as time ticked away for President Saddam Hussein to avoid war by choosing exile.
