88-00109, Boeing D model kit number M3283, was a CH-47D helicopter. The U.S. Army acceptance date was 19 December 1989. As of 31 January 2014, 88-00109 had accumulated at least 6,891.7 D model hours and 9,493.7 total aircraft hours. 88-00109 was a conversion from the original C model Chinook 69-17123. On 21 November 1988, 88-00109 was inducted into the D model program, converted, and initially assigned to Fort Rucker, Alabama and placed into the training fleet. 88-00109 was received at Fort Rucker on 23 June 1990. On or about 13 September 1996, 88-00109 was received in theater and assigned to an unknown unit subordinate to 2nd Battalion - "Nightmare", 52nd Aviation Regiment, located at Desiderio Army Airfield (A-511 or RKSG), Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea. At some point, 88-00109 was assigned to B Company - "Diesel", 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division - "The Big Red One", Marshall Army Airfield (KFRI), Fort Riley, Kansas through at least December 2012. In 2013, the Aviation Missile Command (AMCOM) decided to sell CH-47D airframes on the open market to dispose of the D model fleet and utilize the funds acquired in the sale of those assets to fund future CH-47 requirements. The United States Government General Services Administration (GSA) handled the auction process. 88-00109, along with 88-00097 and 89-00138, was put up for auction in early January 2014 with an auction closing date of 20 January 2014. The minimum reserve bid price was $1,000,000. 88-00109 failed to sell. On 20 January 2014, 88-00109 was again placed on the auction block with a reserve bid price of $2,000,000 By the closing date of 31 January 2014, 88-00097 sold at auction to an unknown buyer for $2,000,001. The DA Form 2408-15 was not posted on the GSA website. As such it is unknown what the condition of the airframe and components were in at the time of the sale. As of 31 January 2014, this aircraft was 43.2 years old. The last known location of 88-00109 was at Madison Executive Airport (KMDQ), Meridianville, Alabama. Aircraft status: Flyable. |
