Boeing CH-47C Model Chinook Helicopters |
In service to the United States Army |
|
A total of 270 C model Chinooks were produced by Boeing for use by the United States Army. Tail numbers 67-18494 (Build number B-464) through 79-23401 (Build number B-733). |
79-23401 was the last C model built at the Boeing facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All subsequent C models were produced under Boeing license by Elicotteri Meridionali, later known simply as Augusta, at their facilities in Frosinone, near Rome, Italy. |
Those C models that returned from service in the Republic of Vietnam, as well as others located in various units around the United States, Europe, Panama, and Korea, were converted to D model helicopters. In the late 1970s, 11 Augusta manufactured C models were built for the Shah of Iran. These were never delivered and were purchased in 1985 by the U.S. Army. They were converted to nine D and two E model helicopters. There are no surviving U.S. Army C models. |
